Hi, I’m Julia, a Biokineticist originally from South Africa.
I have always been interested in movement and the human body and, after a nasty horse riding accident at 19 years old, I was left unable to exercise a few years later. This was due to muscle damage as a result of biomechanical changes which lead to numerous imbalances. This had a significant impact on my movement which deteriorated until most exercise was to painful to perform. After numerous forms of therapy, I met Andrea, a Biokineticist, who quite literally change my life and got me exercising again. From somebody who was forced to be sedentary to someone who could run 3 times a week, instruct numerous spinning classes per week, take part in Crossfit and regular gym classes, I got my normal life back and will be forever grateful.
As a result of my experience, I realised that Biokinetics brought together my love for helping others as well as my interest in movement and the body. This lead me to study my degree in Human Movement and ultimately to obtain my post graduate degree in Biokinetics in South Africa.
I would love to be able to help people the way Andrea helped me. Be that people who suffer orthopedic or sports related injuries to those who suffer niggles or complaints that don’t seem to alleviate, I enjoy the challenge of finding the root cause of the injury. I believe this is vital in order to prevent the issue from reoccurring.
From a personal perspective, I took up road cycling at the beginning of this year and set myself the challenge of riding London to Paris in 24 hours, raising money for my local YMCA. From being terrified of the road (never been on a road bike or in cleats apart from a stationary bike) to learning to love the sport, I upped my challenge and completed the 205 mile Chase the Sun ride two weeks later after just 5 months of cycling. Throughout my experiences I have seen time and time again the importance of team work as well as the benefits of being part of a like minded community. I therefore really look forward to the opportunity of working at cycling and other sporting events and being a part of a team of helping people perform at their best.
